Aging in Place in Israel

aging-in-place

Aging in place is the phrase used to describe seniors who choose to stay living in their home – even when aging becomes more challenging.

Aging in place is a popular choice instead of moving to a skilled nursing facility, and over 96% of older adults in Israel are currently aging in place!  Aging in place requires coordination and utilizing services and resources available to ease the burdens often encountered as people age.  With aging in place, more people can choose where to live, and to maintain a higher level of independence for a longer period of time.

Aging in place in Israel is a viable, cost-effective option for aging adults who want to remain in their home.

Aging in place can be challenging for many reasons.  It requires coordinating various aspects of care, such as:

    1. Creating a safe, accessible environment. This may include wheelchair accessibility, and adapting home environments, such as bathroom fixtures, grab bars, etc.

    1. Organizing caregivers. Israel has many regulations regarding caregivers and this process can be complicated.

    1. Organizing medical care. Israeli Kupat Holim have home health services available for those who qualify.

    1. Case management, which provides high level communication, medical management, referrals, and coordination services. This service is not provided by Kupat Holim, but is essential to aging in place.

    1. Financial and legal preparation. People shun from these topics, but they are essential to the well-being of people who choose to age in place.

Each of these basics is necessary for aging in place to be successful for you or your loved one.

EMA Care, as the premier case management company in Israel will help you with organizing medical care and case management for people who choose aging in place.

Mrs. B is an 80 year old widow living alone in her apartment in Israel.  She has experienced various health setbacks, and she has chosen to "age in place".  Her home is comfortable and reassuring to her, especially when she does not feel well. Two of her children are in Israel and two are living in The States. Mrs. B's health issues are varied and she has been confused lately.  The children are not health professionals and do not know if the confusion is the result of her illness, aging, medication or everything combined. There is a lot of stress in  getting the best care for their mother and the children have been disagreeing among themselves. EMA Care was able to assess Mrs. B's health care, make valuable suggestions, and lead the way to assure Mrs. B will receive the best medical care in Israel.  Mrs. B and her children are able to relax, knowing EMA Care is working hard for Mrs. B's well-being.

As people grow older, even minor health issues can blossom into serious issues and have a snowball effect on the body, state of mind and life.  One fall can affect quality of life forever. Medical care can be complicated and confusing, particularly to the tens of thousands of elderly immigrants in Israel.  Different physicians may contradict each other, and each child may have different opinions regarding care.

EMA Care supports the decision to age in place.  We can help coordinate care and make the process safe, smooth, and comfortable.

Our case managers do not deal only with the logistics of medical appointments and coordination. Each member of our staff is a health professional.  When we help with  health care decisions, we are using our medical knowledge and experience.  Our comprehensive approach to  health means we look at ALL of the patient, not only the medical issues.  EMA Care professionals create individualized plans of care, carefully coordinated with clients’ needs and wishes.

Aging in place is a realistic option in Israel.  Call EMA Care today for a free consultation to discuss your options.

Recommended by an Infectious Disease Specialist

My experience with Ema Care has been so positive that I wanted to share it in case it could help someone else. Eight days ago my daughter, a Shanah Bet student, called to say she wasn’t feeling well and had symptoms of Covid-19. I was put in touch with an Infectious Disease specialist who recommended Ema Care. I reached Dr. Eliana Aaron easily and signed my daughter up. The next morning, Ema Care gave my daughter a telehealth exam and provided her with prescriptions, as well as a list of
