It’s inevitable that somewhere, somehow, a teen from one of the many Israeli summer programs, could be in a hospital emergency room this summer.  There are hundreds of teens here and the sad, but true fact is that someone is going to get hurt or sick.  The program director, a counselor, or an ambulance will take the teen to the hospital.

What happens when the teen arrives in the ER?

Emergency rooms in Israeli hospitals follow typical ER protocol.  However, hospitals are even more crowded here. Hospitals in remote locations may offer sub-optimal care.  Patients are treated based on the severity of the illness, and often the wait to be seen can be hours.  If lab tests and/or x-rays are ordered diagnosis can be even slower.

A trip to the ER means a health crisis and a lot of uncertainty.  It can be frightening.  Often the program staff is ill-equipped to handle a health crisis.  EMA Care provides the care needed, filling the gap left opened between the program, the teen, the hospital, and the parents.

EMA Care provides:

    1. A Hebrew/English speaking advocate. A trained medical professional who can help the teen describe symptoms, and translate to English what the hospital staff is saying to the teen.
    2. Medical advocacy- assuring the teen receives the best medical care available. We share our knowledge and our connections to the best specialists in Israel.
    3. Phone contact with the parents- communicating exactly what is happening, what the choices are, and how to best move forward.
    4. Accompaniment throughout the health crisis so the teen never feels alone.
