Masks and Social Distancing

Do the N-95 masks help?

Do masks work? This is a question that many people have asked us in the past few weeks. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) was discovered in China in December of 2019. It is widespread in Asia, especially in China and Japan, to see people walking around wearing surgical masks to prevent the inhalation of pathogens and pollution.

Surgical masks aren’t effective against COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The N-95 mask has been recommended for medical professionals providing direct care because they are thicker than a surgical mask. Still, neither Schaffner nor the CDC (Centres for Disease Prevention and Control) recommends public use.

The US surgeon general told Americans to stop buying masks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYs8ZVDNIJU.

However, people diagnosed with the Coronavirus should wear face masks to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19 to people around them. According to the CDC, the mask will prevent droplets containing COVID-19 (a sneeze, cough, or speaking) from entering the environment.

While masks are not effective against preventing COVID-19, they are helpful with social distancing. Social Distancing is actions that people take to slow down the spread of highly contagious diseases. The objective of social distancing is to reduce contact between persons carrying an infection. When people see someone wearing a mask, they automatically distance themselves from that person. It is recommended to keep a 2-meter distance from others. If you are in a 2-meter radius, it should not be for longer than 15 minutes. Examples of social distancing are President Trump not shaking people’s hands or The Pope no longer allowing people to kiss his ring.

Ways that you can participate in social distancing are to stop giving high-fives, kissing, shaking hands, and hugging each other.

Recommended by an Infectious Disease Specialist

My experience with Ema Care has been so positive that I wanted to share it in case it could help someone else. Eight days ago my daughter, a Shanah Bet student, called to say she wasn’t feeling well and had symptoms of Covid-19. I was put in touch with an Infectious Disease specialist who recommended Ema Care. I reached Dr. Eliana Aaron easily and signed my daughter up. The next morning, Ema Care gave my daughter a telehealth exam and provided her with prescriptions, as well as a list of
